- The first step is to form and maintain a relationship with a primary care physician. This is your first line of defense when illness sets in. If you don't have a primary care physician, ask your insurance provider for a listing of physicians available to you.
- If you and your family do not have insurance, please look for options of payment such as Credit Cards, Payment by Check and Cash.
- Schedule regular check-ups with your physician. This helps the physician establish a health care history.
- Seek care from your doctor early in the stages of an illness or injury before it worsens.
- If possible, call your physician before visiting an urgent care. Many seasonal illnesses are viral and treatment is limited. A call to your doctor may save you time, money and possibly a long wait at the hospital.
- Ask your doctor about the flu shot and whether you are a candidate for the pneumonia vaccine. Pneumonia vaccines are now available for adults and children.
- Please remember an emergency room should not serve as a substitute for your family physician!
